About me

Hi! I’m Doug Bonenfant, an Adaptive Personal Trainer with an extensive background in applied behavior analysis and behavioral therapy. I have worked extensively with different professionals including: BCBAs, SLPs, OTs, PTs, and SpEd teachers.

For the last decade I have devoted my career to helping neurodivergent individuals be heard, be confident, and be happy.

Through my own fitness journey, I’ve experienced the powerful impact movement can have on both the body and mind.

My approach focuses on creating personally adapted workouts that build trust, spark joy, and — most importantly — foster confidence that carries far beyond exercise.

Session Types

1-1 in-home Personal Training:

One-on-one sessions held in your home. A simple, convenient option that allows training to happen in a familiar environment — whether that’s a home gym, garage, playroom, or basement.

Community Aid (Local Gym):

Support provided at a local gym for individuals who want help navigating equipment, building routines, and increasing independence.

1:1 In-Studio Personal Training:

Individual sessions held in a structured studio environment. A great choice for athletes who enjoy a dedicated space.

Bon Method

Confidence

Fostering independence that extends beyond training

Movement

Fitness becomes a therapeutic experience that strengthens emotional regulation, sleep habits and independence

Relationship-Based Support

Every session is tailored to the individual and built on trust, fun, and consistent encouragement

Presumed Competence

Every individual is capable of meaningful learning, progress, and self-expression when supported with respect and high expectations

I meet each individual where they are — both physically and emotionally. By working in the comfort of their own home, sessions take place in a familiar, low-stress environment that encourages movement, focus, and growth. After years of collaborating with speech, OT, and PT professionals, I’ve learned to blend therapeutic principles into sessions in a natural, individualized way—supporting goals that matter most to each client.

Each workout blends fitness with behavioral supports — visual schedules, positive reinforcement, and individualized pacing — to build confidence, independence, and regulation that extend far beyond the session. These sessions aim to enhance mood, sleep, focus, confidence, and overall wellbeing.

Jeff & Lauren Zimmerman

 Parents

"Before launching Bonspire, Doug had been our son’s behavioral therapist for years. Our son is on the spectrum, has high support needs, and is very active. Doug was incredibly instrumental in the strides our son has made developmentally, socially, and emotionally. Doug’s superpower is his ability to find and maintain a calm and comfortable connection with our son while still persistently pushing him to learn new things.

We’re thrilled that Doug is now training our son and helping to teach him how to engage, energize, and take care of his body."

Kristy Erwin

Parent

"Doug has spent nearly a decade helping children with developmental disabilities gain strength, confidence, and connection through movement. His transition from ABA therapist to personal trainer has been seamless and his tailored, in-home training programs empower kids who may not have access to traditional sports or fitness opportunities. Our son is thriving, and sleeping so much better, following his sessions with Doug!"

Ana Chadwick

Parent

"My daughter is improving both mentally and physically.  Doug tailors the exercises to motivate her while challenging her strength, agility and coordination."

Aimee Elsner

Occupational Therpapist

"I've had the privilege of working with Doug for over a decade. Doug has a rare and natural ability to connect with children in a way that is both meaningful and impactful.

Doug brings a unique combination of confidence, compassion, and presence to his work. Children feel safe with him, trust him, and genuinely enjoy being with him. As a clinician, I deeply valued Doug’s collaborative approach—he consistently worked alongside me to thoughtfully integrate activities that supported and reinforced our shared therapeutic goals.

Watching Doug work with children is truly a gift. Any child who has the opportunity to work with Doug is fortunate to have such a dedicated, intuitive, and skilled professional guiding them."

Alex Lynch

BCBA

"I’ve worked with Doug in several roles within the field over the years, and this is by far where he shines the most. There’s a huge gap in physical health and training services for neurodiverse individuals, and Doug is helping to bridge it in a meaningful way. The care put into creating individualized plans, adapting activities to meet the client’s needs, and pushing them to reach their full potential is both impressive and inspiring!"
